Statement by Dr. Rick Bright Welcoming the Inauguration of the New WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence in Berlin

September 1, 2021 | Washington, D.C. – The Rockefeller Foundation hails the official launch of the World Health Organization Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Intelligence as a milestone in building an effective, equitable global threat detection system. We look forward to continued collaboration with the WHO, the Hub, and its network of global collaborators. We celebrate the outstanding leadership Dr. Tedros and Chancellor Angela Merkel have shown throughout this pandemic and applaud their commitment to creating this vital resource.

The Rockefeller Foundation strongly supports the creation of this collaborative system. The Rockefeller Foundation has a long history of catalyzing change in global health through risk-tolerant, equity-focused, swift-moving initiatives. We are proud to be building on this legacy and look forward to continuing to work with the G7, the G20, the WHO, and all of the partners worldwide to end today’s pandemic and prevent future pandemic threats.
