Project: “Translating Bocaccio’s 14th Century Decameron Second Day into Gikuyu”
Wangui wa Goro is a widely acclaimed Kenyan translator and translation studies pioneer. She works in Gikuyu, French, Italian, Kiswahili, and English. Through her focus on experimental writing and translation into Gikuyu, she has broken new ground across African literature. She came to Bellagio in March 2022 to continue her work translating Bocaccio’s Decameron from Italian to her mother tongue, Gikuyu. She was a founding member of the Translation Caucus of the African Literature Association and has served on the Executive Council of the International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS).
