Bellagio Residency: November 2022

Project: “BrainChild: Understanding child development from the brain’s perspective”

Mark Johnson is a leading scholar in the field of cognitive neuroscience. He has published over 400 scientific papers and several technical books on brain and cognitive development in human infants and children. Johnson came to Bellagio in November 2022 to work on a book intended for the general public called “BrainChild,” which will present a fresh perspective on child development by explaining some of the puzzling, and seemingly maladaptive, phenomena associated with human psychological and behavioral development and its disorders (e.g. crying, defiance, adolescent risk taking). Johnson is Professor in and Head of the Department of Psychology, University of Cambridge, UK.
