Project: “Voices Lost In Industrial Winds”


Composer, ethnomusicologist and Philippine Studies scholar, Maria Christine Muyco came to Bellagio in March 2022. She focused on composing a song cycle about the marginalization of indigenous communities throughout the ASEAN region, drawing upon the vocal music and chanting of indigenous peoples. The recipient of a 2016 Fulbright scholarship and a 2016 Japan Foundation Asia Center research grant, her latest publication, “SIBOD: Ideology and Expressivity in Binanog Dance, Music, and Folkways of the Panay Bukidnon,” was recognized as a National Book Award finalist in 2017. Muyco is a professor at the University of the Philippines-College of Music.
