Project: “The Pandemic as a Portal: COVID-19 and the Future of Health”
Dave Chokshi was the 43rd Commissioner at the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, responsible for COVID-19 testing and treatment strategies, and overseeing the historic campaign to vaccinate over 6 million New Yorkers. He came to Bellagio in July 2022 to write about his experience as a leader in COVID-19 response for New York City, and the consequences of the pandemic for the future of public health. Chokshi is presently a Clinical Professor at NYU, Senior Scholar at the CUNY School of Public Health, and a physician at Bellevue Hospital.
