The Periodic Table of Food

Current Initiative

Overview

Food lies at the core of society’s most pressing challenges: climate change, biodiversity loss, and malnutrition.

The Periodic Table of Food Initiative (PTFI) is providing democratized tools, data, and training to evaluate the quality of the world’s food supply for a global ecosystem of scientists, practitioners, consumers, and policymakers.

The PTFI is leveraging food composition data as a key resource in the development of solutions for planetary health through three pathways: evaluating the effects of climate change on foods, developing evidence for scaling regenerative agriculture and agroecology, and informing the development of diets for the mitigation of diet-related chronic disease.

Why it Matters

Analyzing food on the biomolecular level can help us mitigate dietary implications of climate change, quantify the impact of regenerative agricultural practices on nutrition, and develop ways to mitigate diet-related chronic diseases.
