The Bellagio Center Residency Program is seeking candidates for 2024 who are working on projects that will promote the holistic well–being of individuals and societies to foster equity, opportunity, and sustainability. Successful applicants will be working to reorient social, political, and economic systems which seek to balance economic growth and consumption as a means to a diverse set of more important ends such as community, safety, nature, creativity and freedom.
The Promoting Well–being Residency seeks a multidisciplinary range of stakeholders advancing projects with potential for breakthroughs. Academics, artists, journalists and writers, policymakers and on-the-ground practitioners are all welcome to apply. All applicants will be required to describe a concrete project which addresses the theme and clearly links to their expertise.
Areas of interest:
- Beyond GDP – How can we institute new tools and metrics to holistically measure human well–being and planetary flourishing? How can we ensure that government and democratic institutions are shaping markets to foster specific societal goals?
- Social Connection and Purpose – How can we build communities that encourage strong social bonds, and foster equity, freedom of expression, purpose and meaning across diverse social groups?
- Financial Stability and Material Goods – How can we ensure a minimum threshold of material wealth and stability to promote long term prosperity, and equal access to basic services such as food, water, shelter, and healthcare for all?
- Empowering Marginalized Groups – How can we elevate and amplify the leadership of local and indigenous communities, as well as women and communities of color?
