Big Bet: Empower survivors of abuse to achieve financial independence to break the cycle of economic insecurity.

Project: Alaska has some of the highest rates of domestic and sexual violence in the U.S., disproportionately impacting rural and Indigenous communities. The Take Wing Initiative empowers abuse survivors with financial education, business grants, and access to safe banking options. It aims to transform financial systems and service provider practices providing trauma-informed financial education, ensuring proper support to help survivors achieve financial independence and business ownership.

Gretchen is a passionate advocate for vibrant, resilient communities, working at the intersection of entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, and creative strategy. Her previous roles include Associate Director at the Alaska Center for Economic Development and business development lead for the State of Alaska.
