Mme. Bineta Diop is the Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on Women, Peace, and Security. She is also the founder and President of Femmes Africa Solidarité (FAS), an international NGO working to foster, strengthen and promote the leadership role of women in conflict prevention, management, and resolution in Africa. As a longtime Senegalese women’s rights activist, she has participated in reconciliation processes in Burundi, Liberia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo and has served on an inquiry commission about violence against women in South Sudan. She is a passionate advocate for women’s economic empowerment, and founded the Empowering Women in Agriculture Initiative in Africa (EWA).
