Across disciplines and geographies, leaders come to the Bellagio Center to turn ambitious ideas into work that improves lives. Recent residency projects illustrate this impact: Dr. Jennifer Burney advanced research on regenerative school meals that links hunger reduction with climate resilience; Dr. Luís Fernando Guedes Pinto refined a cross‑sector restoration model for Brazil’s Atlantic Forest that’s now expanding through multiple pilot programs; and civic innovator Eric Liu developed a forthcoming book on how to strengthen civic culture, documenting the practices that help communities build healthier democracies.

For nearly 70 years, the Bellagio Center has offered a rare combination of solitude, collaboration, and interdisciplinary exchange. Its alumni carry forward the relationships and insights formed on the hilltop, fueling solutions that continue to evolve and shape the issues defining our collective future.

The residency gives changemakers what breakthrough work often needs most: focused time, a community of peers, and an environment that sparks new thinking. Over 26 days in Lake Como, Italy, residents test assumptions, deepen their projects, and build relationships that strengthen their work long after they leave.

The Rockefeller Foundation is proud to open the next call for leaders ready to advance bold, solutions‑driven projects — where focused time, diverse perspectives, and meaningful collaboration help promising ideas grow into work that can shape a more equitable and resilient future.

Meet our 2026 and 2025 Bellagio Center Residents

Nearly 90 global leaders hailing from 35 countries are expected to join the 2026 class of Bellagio residents, advancing a range of projects that reflect The Rockefeller Foundation’s mission to “promote the well-being of humanity.”

This illustrious group includes, among others: Pulitzer Prize–winning historian Kai Bird; former White House senior adviser and New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu; former University of Pennsylvania president Mary Elizabeth Magill; former Bezos Earth Fund CEO Andrew Steer; and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Juan Carlos Jintiach Arcos.

We are also proud to share more about our 2025 class of leaders and experts who are using technology, business, science, economics, literature, and the arts to shape solutions that move our world forward.

When speaking with former residents about the program, a few trends stand out — the place, the people, and the support they received are what makes this experience invaluable:

“Over the years, Bellagio’s powerful network and outstanding programming have reconnected me with old colleagues, introduced me to new ideas, and provided fresh perspectives.”

“What I treasured most about my residency experience was being in a space where the arts were valued. The Rockefeller Foundation understands that all disciplines are important for human development and we must harness the diverse thinking of these groups to bring forward change. I am proud to be part of this Network.”

“Having the chance to spend a month away isolated from my routine, where I could develop and organize the case for this work, from a 30-second speech to a 30-page document, was invaluable. And being able to test my ideas with my fellow residents was amazingly useful. The beauty and the energy of the people there is magical. And the friends you make are forever.”

“Bellagio’s spirit of expansiveness and inclusiveness followed me home. My experience there helped me open up and share my work with people from other disciplines, something our cohort keeps doing as a group.”
