Global Energy Alliance

Current Initiative

Overview

Access to clean, reliable, affordable electricity is intrinsically connected to human development and prosperity. Yet 730 million people in the world still don’t have access to electricity. The Rockefeller Foundation has been working to address this challenge for over a decade and, in 2021, we made our biggest bet ever on the Global Energy Alliance.

The Global Energy Alliance operates through transformative public, private, philanthropic partnerships that enable it to deliver 18x leverage on its investments. The Global Energy Alliance works across two pillars: Grids of the Future, focused on infrastructure and innovation — and Powering Opportunity, focused on ensuring access to abundant, reliable energy enables people and communities to improve their lives and secure their economic future.
