Global Energy Alliance

Current Initiative

Overview

Access to clean, reliable electricity is intrinsically connected to human development and prosperity. In addition to making basic access universal, demand and usage must expand. In 70+ “energy-poor” countries, per capita electricity consumption is still too low to sustain economic well-being or make communities more resilient to the impacts of a warming planet. This is a challenge The Rockefeller Foundation has been working to address for over a decade, and in 2021, we made a big bet on the Global Energy Alliance (GEA) to accelerate the transition to renewable energy.

Today, we are more certain than ever that connecting everyone to renewable, reliable electricity is the defining task of our time. That’s why we are going all in on our commitment to advancing energy access and inclusive energy transitions.
