Energy Capacity Futures

CURRENT INITIATIVE

Overview

Energy Capacity Futures supports the institutions, talent, and ecosystems needed to build stronger, more resilient energy systems across emerging markets. This work focuses on strengthening regulatory, planning, and institutional capacity so countries can shape and implement integrated energy pathways spanning grid, off-grid, and emerging value chains, including critical minerals.

Through system-level capacity building and ecosystem strengthening, The Rockefeller Foundation helps develop local capabilities that influence energy sector outcomes across multiple countries and programs. Our focus is not only on expanding reliable energy supply, but also on strengthening the institutions and planning systems needed to link electricity to broader economic opportunity.

A core part of this work is investing in local expertise, supporting strong institutional homes for analysts and practitioners, and fostering collaboration across countries and disciplines. By strengthening locally led research and planning capacity, we help ensure energy pathways are shaped by those closest to the context, while generating insights that can inform broader global pathways to energy abundance.
