Closing the Wealth Gap in Miami

Mileyka Burgos-Flores, Executive Director of the Allapattah Collaborative in Miami, talks about why it is important to invest in business districts founded by immigrants that are in danger of being displaced due to market forces. The racial wealth gap has cost the U.S. $22.9 trillion over the last 30 years, according to a recent Brookings Institute paper. Burgos-Flores has started a “Thrive In-Place” fund to help small business owners purchase their storefronts.
