Matt Herrick

Former Managing Director, Communications

Matt Herrick served as Managing Director of Communications for The Rockefeller Foundation. In this role, Matt managed and directed media relations, digital communications, speechwriting, messaging, creative assets, event and thought leadership opportunities for the Foundation’s expert staff, and helped to develop and define initiatives in support of the Foundation’s brand.

Prior to joining The Rockefeller Foundation, Matt was senior vice president with Story Partners public affairs in Washington, DC where he founded and managed the agency’s food, nutrition, and trade practice, working with foundations including The Pew Charitable Trusts and the Foundation for Food and Agriculture Research. He served in the Obama Administration for three years, first as press director and spokesperson for the U.S. Agency for International Development under Dr. Rajiv J. Shah, and then as communications director for the U.S. Department of Agriculture under Tom Vilsack. Matt also led communications and media relations for Oxfam America, served as speechwriter and spokesperson for USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service, and led project communications efforts for development contractor Chemonics International. He holds a BA from the College of the Holy Cross and an MA from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications.
