Debbie Wright as a former Senior Vice President for U.S. Jobs & Economic Opportunity at The Rockefeller Foundation where she and her team work to ensure everyone living and working in the United States has access to a good job and a secure future—even as the economy, the job market, and the workplace change.
Before coming to The Rockefeller Foundation, Debbie served as Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Carver Bancorp Inc. and Carver Federal Savings Bank, a federally chartered savings bank and the nation’s largest publicly-traded African-American led bank. Debbie joined Carver in 1999 after serving as President and CEO of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone Development Corporation, a fund which spurred redevelopment in Harlem. Previously, Debbie was Commissioner of the New York City Department of Housing, Preservation and Development, where she funded development of 21,000 affordable housing units and managed 43,000 residential properties. She also held roles with the New York City Housing Authority Board and the Partnership for New York City. She served under New York City mayors David Dinkins and Rudolph Giuliani. Most recently, Ms. Wright was a Senior Fellow for Economic Opportunity Issues at the Ford Foundation and serves on the boards of directors for Citi, and Memorial Sloan Kettering; previously, she served on the public boards of Time Warner, Voya Financial, and Kraft Foods. She is a graduate of Harvard Law School, Harvard Business School, and Radcliffe College.
