In 2014 Ellie Bertani joined the Walmart US HR strategy team as Director of Workforce Strategy and Innovation, responsible for delivering a value proposition to US employees that will allow Walmart to attract, develop, and retain the best associates for Walmart’s strategic needs. She works with the leadership team to develop Walmart’s long-term US workforce strategy and to execute multiple projects to transform its workplaces.

Prior to this, Ellie was a Senior Manager in Walmart’s Global Women’s Economic Empowerment Initiative, responsible for Walmart’s corporate goal to double sourcing from women-owned businesses for its eleven international retail markets by 2017. In that role she managed the initiative’s international sourcing strategy development and program implementation, collaborating with counterparts in each of the markets and with Walmart’s Global Sourcing team.

Ellie joined Walmart in July 2013 after receiving her Master of Public Administration from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and her MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management. Her professional career has included over ten years of work in the nonprofit, public, and private sectors, including positions with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the U.S. State Department, Third Sector Capital Partners, and Rotary International. She has been lucky to have the opportunity to live abroad in Thailand, Italy, Australia, and China. She and her husband, Carlo Bertani, live in Bentonville, Arkansas with their three sons: Tony (6 years old), Vince (3 years old), and Luca (newborn). Her favorite past-times include reading, board games, and stand-up comedy.
