About UsOur Team Achieng' Otieno

Achieng’ Otieno joined The Rockefeller Foundation in 2013, and based in Nairobi, the hub of the Africa Regional Office. As Communications Officer for the Africa region, she was responsible for strategic communication and influence support focused on various initiatives that include the Foundation’s work in food security, health, and youth employment.

Before joining The Rockefeller Foundation, Ms. Otieno worked for the Standard Group, Kenya’s second largest media as a newsroom reporter, and later in other communications roles in the development sector. At UNICEF, she worked on maternal mortality and child survival and protection issues covering 21 countries in East and Southern Africa. She was also part of teams that implemented various advocacy campaigns on children’s and women’s rights, and coordinated emergency communications during conflict and disasters. While at CARE International and at the Dadaab refugee camp, she coordinated media coverage on refugees’ transition from Somalia during the 2011 drought in the Horn of Africa.

Ms. Otieno earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and international relations from the United States International University – Africa, and is an M.A Development Communication candidate at Daystar University in East Africa.
