The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a highly motivated Digital and Social Media Manager who can understand, excite and engage new and untapped strategic audiences, helping take the Foundation’s and our president’s presence on social media and other digital platforms to the next level and to further strengthen The Rockefeller Foundation’s leading voice in philanthropy. The mandate is to expand our reach, engage new people within our stakeholder profile, and deepen reach and engagement across the board, helping to advance our mission.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions**):

The Rockefeller Foundation’s Communications unit is responsible for all key communications functions including media relations, website and digital communications, and speechwriting, and sits within the Foundation’s Global Policy and Advocacy team. The Global Policy and Advocacy team is comprised of the regional offices in Asia and Africa, the convenings & Bellagio Center team, and the policy, communications, partnerships, and program influence and campaigns functions. As a strategy and service unit, the team operates with four primary aims: setting the table for action-oriented convenings and consensus in support of global goals; shaping the conversation around food, health, power and jobs, and building optimism for solving problems that will improve life for the world’s poorest through compelling story-telling and impact-focused narratives; building allies for our program teams and their work by creating, nurturing and extending networks that will help Rockefeller Foundation investments and ideas travel farther and make an impact faster. Finally, the team aims to partner for impact, forging alliances, shared funding vehicles, and advocacy strategies that amplify our reach, influence, and impact.

As part of the Communications unit, the Digital team develops and implements strategies to engage internal and external audiences that inform organizational decisions, innovate, and create new ways to advance the Foundation’s mission throughout the world.

The mandate is to expand our reach, engage new people within our stakeholder profile, and deepen reach and engagement across the board, helping to advance our mission.

This individual must stay educated on the latest social media trends and platform changes, especially as it applies to both philanthropy and social change, be motivated to understand the Foundation’s programmatic objectives and strategic audiences and work with the Digital Director, Program and Communication teams to develop digital strategies, ideate and create native social content that help advance these objectives. The manager will place content in the most strategic social media channels, optimize for reach/engagement through eventual paid media campaigns, oversee our feeds and monitor results.

The manager will also have ownership over our social listening platform (we currently use Netbase) and be in charge of conducting both ongoing and select strategic analysis of social media conversations that can help identify key topics, popular content and influencers for digital communication, as well as help inform programmatic and communication initiatives.

In addition to social media, the manager will also consolidate results across multiple digital channels, measure, analyze and report on qualitative and quantitative audience insights, and work cross-functionally with data and within the digital team to track and report these results.

In collaboration with another Manager, the Manager will support as needed the Foundation’s integrated internal and external content strategy and editorial calendar. Produce, write, and/or coordinate Foundation website updates and blog posts. Provide support and quality assurance to achieve Foundation objectives of collecting, storing, and sharing valuable content from internal stakeholders. Co-supervise the Foundation’s digital assets, and promote written and visual content that speaks to the Foundation’s target audiences.

The manager will collaborate with counterparts within Digital and across Global Policy and Advocacy, the Foundation’s program and innovation teams, and with select external vendors (e.g. communication agencies) and/or grantees. This position is an integral part of the Communications team, producing and delivering content that aligns with The Rockefeller Foundation brand, mission, values, and goals.

Supervision Received:

The Digital & Social Media Manager reports directly to the Director of Digital, within the Foundation’s Communications unit.

Supervision Exercised:

This position has no direct reports.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with a focus on communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or digital media/technology.
  • 2+ years of experience in philanthropy or social change
  • 5+ years of digital communications & social media experience including content strategy, visual storytelling, community engagement, paid media optimization, reporting, and strategy.
  • Exceptional understanding and use of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Snapchat.
  • Measurement-driven mindset with extensive experience with Google Analytics, Twitter Analytics, Facebook Insights, and social listening tools (we currently use Netbase).
  • Understanding of philanthropy, with a passion for humanitarian, development, and public policy. A genuine interest in innovation and the Foundation’s mission.
  • Highly self-directed and resourceful with the ability to work independently, while also being a productive team player.
  • Design skills, with ability to produce basic visual graphics for distribution on social media.
  • Passionate about social media and emerging trends.
  • Strong writing, editing, reporting, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication, writing and organizational skills – strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work in collaboration with both technical and non-technical staff to brainstorm, problem solve, and execute.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a commitment to meeting deadlines and improving processes.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with photography and video production, a familiarity with the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, and graphic design principles and practices
