The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking an Associate Director (AD) to further the Foundation’s focus on expanding jobs and economic opportunity in the United States. In so doing, the Foundation seeks to expand opportunities for more broadly shared prosperity.
The U.S. Jobs and Economic Opportunity Initiative will 1) identify and scale solutions for workers and 2) mobilize private investment in people and places. The team will finalize execution benchmarks and performance metrics, to guide its strategy of investments to further its mission.
The Associate Director is critical member of the execution team. The AD will help to shape and implement the Foundation’s place based equitable economic development efforts to ensure that low wage workers can achieve economic stability and mobility. This individual will work closely with city leaders, economic development directors, The Rockefeller Foundation partners, business leaders and community based organizations with shared values and focus.
Duties include a mix of internal and external responsibilities, including grants management, project management and representing the department in foundation-wide activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Thought partner and day-to-day interface with grantees:
- Structure grants and negotiate proposals.
- Write grant memos and pre-proposal materials for review.
- Network-building and connecting grantees and other stakeholders.
- Contribute feedback and thought to grantees’ articles, events, etc.
- Knowledge capture and management – synthesize learning from grantees, with primary responsibility for reading grantee reports. Utilize data from monitoring and evaluation reports. Actively contribute to and utilize The Rockefeller Foundation’s knowledge management products. Use synthesized knowledge to inform the department and the Foundation’s understanding of grantee and other current learning.
- Facilitate collaboration among grantees – to increase learning and capacity.
- Interface with internal constituents including the President’s office, Data and Technology, Innovation, Finance, Communications and other granting divisions.
- Prepare written updates as directed by the Managing Director, for internal and external constituents.
- Oversee associates, to maximize performance and career development.
- Build departmental influence, internally and externally, to leverage the Foundation’s work and thereby achieve greater impact. This includes building partnerships and relationships with other donors, community and public participants.
- Represent the work of the Foundation at external conferences and forums, as requested by the MD.
Education, Experience and Skills:
- Advanced degree in relevant field of study; MPA, or MA in Public Policy a plus, strong content knowledge.
- A minimum of 7 years progressive professional experience in relevant sector(s).
- Experience developing, managing and implementing multi-party projects with defined objectives, deliverables, monitoring and evaluation of results.
- Leadership and management experience in complex organizations, and managing teams focused on a broad range of strategic initiatives and programs. Experience setting priorities in dynamic environments.
- Experience with evaluative research methods helpful.
- The ability to travel as necessary, primarily domestically.
