Cities of the future...

50% of the global population currently live in cities and this is expected to increase to 70% (or 6.4 billion people) by 2050. Asian cities are expected to see more than 60% of this increase and 46% of all urban population growth will occur in cities with fewer than 500,000 inhabitants.

Climate Trends and Global Crop Production Since 1980
Jonas Bendiksen
Over the past 30 years, global corn and wheat production has decreased 3 to 5 percent in response to climate warming, while soybean and rice production have remained stable. According to the authors of this new study, the drop-off in production may be responsible for the 6 percent rise in food prices since 1980. That's a 60 billion dollar a year jump in what consumers paid for food. The findings offer a panoramic view of food production that may influence agricultural policy and help farmers make changes to how they grow crops.
