Progress and Challenges in Addressing Urban Adaptation in Asia
Background
The overall goal of the Cities and Resilience Dialogue was to provide an opportunity for city representatives from Asia to have a direct dialogue with their respective national climate negotiators in order to promote the needs and capacities of cities to lead local climate resilience efforts.
The event also explored other regional initiatives underway to support cities and other local actors in pursuing climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. A variety of agencies provided updates on their programs and look at opportunities for further collaboration with cities in Asia on these topics.
Day 1: Monday, September 28, 2009
Day 1 and part of Day 2 were held as a preparatory workshop among the city representatives and supporting partners to share experiences and commit to key messages to be raised with the national negotiating teams in the lunch session on Day 2.

Day 2: Tuesday, September 29, 2009
Day 2 of the Cities and Resilience meeting had three distinct sessions:
- Presentations by supporting agencies of relevant regional and national initiatives.
- Finalization of planning for the meeting with the national negotiating teams.
- Meeting with national negotiating teams to highlight the ongoing efforts of cities and local actors in select countries in Asia in addressing the challenges of urban climate change adaptation and to explore opportunities link advocacy and planning efforts by national and city governments.
