Managing Director, Africa
James Nyoro joined the Rockefeller Foundation in 2008. As Managing Director, Africa, he is based in Nairobi, Kenya. His responsibilities include overseeing Foundation work across Africa, strengthening and complementing the Foundation’s initiatives around the globe.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Mr. Nyoro was executive director of Egerton University’s Tegemeo Institute, a Nairobi-based policy think tank. In this role he identified policy needs and developed research themes for African governments and private sector partners. He also participated in the formulation of various government development strategies such as the Kenya Vision 2030, a long-term, national strategy to spur prosperity and global competitiveness. He has also served in several government appointed task forces to address challenges in agricultural and rural development in the region.
During the previous two decades, he worked as a principal analyst at Tegemeo, in charge of policy research and advocacy in agriculture and rural development.
Mr. Nyoro has a degree in Agriculture from University of Nairobi and a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Wye College, University of London.
